About
Anime days OTAKA is the first and only Japanese-animation-oriented cinematic event in Lithuania. Keeping in mind the thrifty culture of anime in this small country of Central Europe, OTAKA made its first step in late 2008. One could say the first volume of OTAKA was modest but at the same time energetic and bold. It was the first time someone would bring a pack of quality anime titles and screen them collectively in the theatre for a special event of this kind. And even though the spirits were high, no one could imagine the huge success it has actually achieved.
OTAKA came out with a message and hope for anime culture to gain its proper manifestation in Lithuania, gathering people who value and enjoy quality and variety of Japanese animation. Encouraged by previous years' success OTAKA set a goal to become the biggest annual event of anime culture in the region, bringing newest works of Japanese animation, representing different styles and genres created, introducing viewers to the history of anime by screening past and present Japanese animation films, arranging discussion forums, workshops and gatherings for people to fully indulge in the world of anime.
One of the most important things is that OTAKA is open to everyone. The programme is created in a way that attracts attention of people of all ages – children, teenagers, youth, and adults. It also suits the interest of long time anime fans and those who are new to it. OTAKA tries to attract more and more people to anime and engage in Japanese culture altogether. Hence the name – OTAKA, made by combining two words: otaku (anime fan) and attack, which denotes strong emphasis on spreading and promoting anime related sub-culture.
